Messiahs of Israel and Believers Of Christianity

The search for the Messiah is as old as the Jews themselves. Indeed, the Jewish people are quite knowledgeable about the lineage of Jesus. They are also quite opinionated about Jesus and his life. However, they may not usually debate it. Tanakh, the Hebrew Bible, speaks of people known as “mashiach” who have been anointed by God for a specific task. Indeed, the Hebrew word mashiach means “anointed” although it does not come with a capital M.

Messiahs in Israel

The search for the Mashiach is eternal. There is hope that this person can bring to the world something that generations of people have desired. There is also a conviction that he has even brought some people to the forefront, whom we call the Messiah of Israel. Even in Judaism, some figures used to be revered as Mashiach, even for a short while. Indeed, there are a lot of predictions about the messiah. Moses certainly was one of them.

Two Messiahs

There is a popular view in Judaism that holds that there can be two Mashiach figures. There are prophecies that Mashiach ben Yosef would suffer and die for his people while Mashiach Ben David will conquer the world and establish peace. These views have something in common with the Yeshua of Nazareth, Jesus.

The Messiah of Nazareth

There are people in Israel who are comfortable with the idea of two Mashiach personalities, i.e. Ben Yosef and Ben David. They may not be entirely comfortable with the idea of Yeshua of Nazareth being the only Messiah of Israel and the world. It may be a popular view, but not the only view in Israel. Indeed, there are believers in the Messiah of Nazareth, Jesus, being the only Messiah for the Israeli people as well as the world.

The Rise Of Believers In Israel

True, Christianity is minuscule in Israel. Only 2% of the population of Israel is Christian. Yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel as far as the propagation of Christianity in Israel is concerned. This is because most of the Christians in Israel are baptized which means that they are first-generation believers in Jesus.

Conclusion

The gap between the believers and non-believers of Christianity in Christianity is narrow. Indeed, Israel is one country where Christians all over the world hear the footsteps of Jesus. Indeed, this is the place where Jesus took birth and died. Certainly, the people of Israel are a much more enlightened lot about the Messiah of Nazareth, Jesus.
