TP-Link manufactures numerous range extenders that are able to extend 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks simultaneously. However, one needs to configure the settings of the extender differently from those of the host router when they wish to use a certain frequency band. Application Scenarios of TP-Link Extender

Scenario 1: Dual Band Host Router and You want to Extend Both Bands

It is considered as standard usage of most of the TP-Link extenders. For this, access the Quick Setup wizard using the TP-Link extender’s default web address. Scan the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency bands separately. Once you select the correct networks, you have to enter their WiFi password and hit connect. After the successful configuration of your TP-Link extender, it will amplify both 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals simultaneously. Also, the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz LED lights on your device will become solid.

Scenario 2: The Router Supports 2.4GHz and You want the Extender to Broadcast 5GHz too.

Most wireless router supports only the 2.4GHz frequency bands. But, it becomes difficult to manage when the WiFi-enabled devices supporting the 5GHz frequency bands need an internet connection. In that case, this application scenario comes into play. Here, you need to scan for the 2.4GHz frequency band only and skip the 5GHz scanning. After accessing the Quick setup wizard using http tplinkrepeater net, enter the WiFi password of the selected network. After the setup process, the extender will broadcast the dual-band signals. However, the 5GHz LED light on your TP-Link extender won’t glow.

Scenario 3: The Router Supports 5GHz and You want the Extender to Broadcast 2.4GHz too.

Sometimes, users have WiFi-enabled devices that support only the 2.4GHz band only, whereas the router only supports the 5Hz frequency band. In that scenario, it becomes difficult to connect wireless client devices demanding 2.4GHz frequency. In this case, you can set up the TP-Link extender to broadcast the 5GHz signal too. Just access the Quick Setup wizard, scan the 5Ghz frequency band and enter the wireless security key of the network you’ve selected. After completing the setup process of the extender, you will be able to access the 2.4GHz as well as the 5GHz frequency. But, keep in mind that the 2.4GHz LED on your TP-Link extender will not light up.

Scenario 4: High Speed Mode (1)

Due to the normal range-extending function of the TP-Link extender, the wireless speed is reduced to half. But, with the High Speed mode, you can enjoy an uninterrupted high-speed internet connection. You can use the High Speed mode (1) application if your host router is the 2.4GHz only product. To use the first application scenario of the High Speed mode, go to the Wireless section. Locate the High Speed section, and select “Local Wireless Access in 5GHz Only and Main AP/Router Extension in 2.4GHz”. Now, scan for the 2.4GHz network and complete the required criteria. Once done, your extender will only broadcast the 5GHz frequency. But, the 2.4GHz won’t light up. You will be only able to see the light indicating the 5GHz frequency band.

Scenario 5: High Speed Mode (2)

The High Speed mode (2) application scenario is useful when the main router is the 5GHz only product, whereas client devices present in your home network support the 2.4GHz frequency band only. To enable High Speed mode in this scenario, access the Quick setup wizard via http://tplinkrepeater.net and locate the High Speed Mode option under the Settings section. Thereafter, select “Local Wireless Access in 2.4GHz Only and Main AP/Router Extension in 5GHz” and scan for the 5GHz network to which you want the extender to connect. After the completion of the setup process, the range extender will broadcast the 2.4GHz network whereas the 5GHz LED light will glow up.
