How to Make Steamed Chicken Momos Without a Steaming Basket?

Make Steamed Chicken Momos

Momos or dumplings are one of the most delicious street foods that can leave anyone craving for more and tempting for a second serving. Instead of ordering them from streetside vendors or restaurants, you can make them hygienically at home even if you don’t have a steaming basket. Read this article to know how to make steamed chicken momos without a steaming basket.

Prepare Momo Dough

Add the required ingredients for making the momo dough (all-purpose flour, salt and water) to a momo maker. This appliance will automatically knead, mix and extrude the dough. With a momo maker at home, you can save yourself from the hassle of manually preparing the momo dough.

Prepare Chicken Fillings

Prepare chicken fillings with your choice of flavours. A simple method is to sauté a cup of minced chicken in oil and toss it with salt, pepper, chilli powder or chopped green chillies, and soya sauce. If you want to season it with any other herbs or ingredients of your choice, you can do so. Once done, turn off the stove and allow the mixture to cool down.

Shape the Momos

Cut the momo dough into round shape using a round dough cutter. Keep the round-shaped dough into a momo shaping die after wetting its edges. Fill the chicken fillings and snap the die close to give shape to the momos.

Steam the Momos

Now, for steaming the momos without a steaming basket, take a deep-bottomed vessel. Crush an aluminium foil to make three large balls and place them in the vessel. Add a few inches of water to this vessel. Place the momos on a greased ceramic plate and keep this plate on the aluminium foils. Ensure that the momos are not over-crowded on the plate. Bring the water to a boil, lower the heat and allow the water to simmer. Cover the vessel with a lid and let it steam for around 15 minutes before turning off the induction stove.

You can now serve hot momos with spicy red chutney or mayonnaise.  Relish the scrumptious momos made at home using a momo maker and your own creative steamer.
