7. Chadar Trek – Ladakh
One of his most visited places in India, Lake Chadar lies deep in the swirling passageways of Ladakh’s snow-capped mountains. It is a frozen river that is very difficult to navigate due to the thick snow. Called the Blanket of the Zanskar River, Chadar is generally a fast-flowing lake, but turns into a blanket during extreme winter months. The best season for trekking is from January to February.
During the winter, the Zanskar River looks like an ice sheet, overcoming the most difficult conditions. Most of the trekking is done on foot, but hikers may have to climb frozen rocks and boulders along the way.
